Genuine story of faith and miracle that celebrates prayer and Christian hope.
In-depth analysis
Breakthrough is an unashamed and unapologetic narrative of faith. The film effortlessly depicts prayer as an act of genuine power, not mere psychological solace, and miracle as a tangible divine intervention. The direction embraces emotional restraint: it refrains from manipulating with strident music or crude sensationalism, instead trusting in the inherent potency of the events. The interplay between medical science and faith is not posited as antagonism but as a point of convergence: physicians acknowledge the inexplicable without forsaking their professional rigor. For parents, it offers an opportunity to discuss with their children Christian hope, efficacious prayer, and trust in God when all seems impossible. Chrissy Metz's performance aptly captures Joyce's maternal determination and combative faith. The medical emergency scenes evoke emotional tension, yet without visual harshness. A narrative that fortifies familial faith and serves as a reminder that divine grace can irrupt even when human reason is spent.
