In-depth analysis
Thesis is a Spanish psychological thriller that examines violent voyeurism and the snuff industry with unsettling clarity. The film does not glorify violence: it denounces it through Ángela's journey, as she discovers an underworld of actual murder recordings while researching for her academic thesis. The screenplay is intelligent and the direction precise, building psychological tension rather than explicit gore. However, the very nature of the subject matter introduces the viewer to disturbing concepts and scenes. Although the camera does not dwell on extreme violence, the mere fact that the plot revolves around snuff material generates an oppressive and morally distressing atmosphere. The film assumes an adult viewer capable of maintaining critical distance. The underlying message is sound: violence filmed for consumption is a perversion that objectifies and destroys. Ángela acts as a moral conscience confronting evil. But the thematic weight and the scenes of discovering the snuff material make this work exclusively for adults with formed judgment. It is not suitable for minors nor recommended for family viewing due to the implicit rawness of the subject matter.
