Synopsis
Super spy Lance Sterling and scientist Walter Beckett are almost exact opposites. Lance is smooth, suave and debonair. Walter is… not. But what Walter lacks in social skills he makes up for in smarts and invention, creating the awesome gadgets Lance uses on his epic missions. But when events take an unexpected turn, Walter and Lance suddenly have to rely on each other in a whole new way.
Verdict
Animated action comedy about teamwork and friendship, without ideological alerts.
In-depth analysis
An animated spy comedy that banks on the chemistry between opposites: the arrogant agent who relies solely on his physical prowess and the pacifist inventor who believes in intelligence over brute force. When Lance accidentally transforms into a pigeon, the absurd premise becomes a laboratory of humility: the protagonist must learn to depend on someone he previously disdained.
The script balances the action of chases and gadgets with ingenious visual humor, and the animation from Blue Sky Studios maintains the pace without succumbing to saturation. The message regarding non-violence as a primary option is not a matter of woke naivety but rather narrative coherence: Walter demonstrates that ingenuity can indeed overcome brute force.
For parents, it is a work that invites discussion about humility, respect for the talents of others, and the importance of listening to diverse perspectives. The violence is strictly cartoonish, and the humor, clean. A solid choice for any family seeking entertainment without compromising its values.
