Homosexual relationship as the central axis; explicit sexual content between men.
In-depth analysis
The work presents a homosexual relationship as the emotional and dramatic core of the entire story, without moral counterweight or an alternative perspective. The narrative follows without critical distance the cycle of rupture and reconciliation between the protagonists, normalizing the same-sex relationship as equivalent to any romantic bond. Wong Kar-wai's technical mastery — dreamlike cinematography, fragmented editing, evocative use of color — does not attenuate the fundamental content; on the contrary, the formal beauty makes the message penetrate deeper. The explicit sex scenes between men and the emotional rawness of the toxic relationship place the work in exclusively adult territory. The problem is not that it depicts pain or human fragility, but that it deliberately eliminates all questioning about the nature of the relationship itself. The film assumes as a premise what should be a subject of discernment. For parents: an internationally recognized auteur film, but with fundamental ideological and explicit sexual content that make it unsuitable for any family context.
