Two years after the events of the Fourth Great Ninja War, the moon that Hagoromo Otsutsuki created long ago to seal away the Gedo Statue begins to descend towards the world, threatening to become a meteor that would destroy everything on impact. Amidst this crisis, a direct descendant of Kaguya Otsutsuki named Toneri Otsutsuki attempts to kidnap Hinata Hyuga but ends up abducting her younger sister Hanabi. Naruto and his allies now mount a rescue mission before finding themselves embroiled in a final battle to decide the fate of everything.
Verdict
Heroic adventure with values of friendship, perseverance, and healthy adolescent romance.
In-depth analysis
This cinematic installment from the Naruto universe functions as a coming-of-age story where the protagonist discovers that true heroism includes the capacity to love and commit. The apocalyptic plot (the moon falling towards Earth) serves as an epic framework for a more intimate story: the development of the bond between Naruto and Hinata. The script balances action and emotion without succumbing to sentimentality, maintaining the core values of the series: perseverance, loyalty, and sacrifice for others. The violence is typical of shonen anime — stylized ninja combat, fantastical fighting techniques, explosions — without excessive gore or visceral cruelty. The romance is presented with the innocence characteristic of the genre: moments of tenderness, romantic tension, and emotional culmination without sexual content. For parents with teenage children who are fans of Naruto, it is a solid option that reinforces positive values and satisfactorily concludes narrative arcs. The PG-13 rating accurately reflects the content: appropriate for ages 13 and up with parental guidance due to the intensity of the action sequences.
