In-depth analysis
This Chinese production constructs a narrative puzzle where fiction and reality intertwine until they become indistinguishable. The screenplay raises legitimate questions about the power of stories and the creator's responsibility towards their work, without falling into postmodern relativism: there are real consequences for the characters' decisions, both in the fictional world and in the real one. The violence is considerable — martial arts combat, sword duels, and action sequences typical of the wuxia genre — but remains within the aesthetic of Asian action cinema, without reveling in cruelty. The R rating warns of this intensity. The problem for a family is not ideological but one of maturity: the plot is dense, with multiple narrative layers that demand sustained attention, and the physical violence requires a viewer prepared for it. There is no sexual content or extreme language. For older adolescents capable of following complex narrative structures and with tolerance for physical action, it can be a stimulating cinematic experience that opens conversation about art and truth.
