In-depth analysis

This South Korean film reconstructs with stark realism the systematic abuses perpetrated against deaf children in an educational institution. The director does not seek to exploit the horror but to denounce it: the camera does not aestheticize violence but exposes it for what it is — a criminal betrayal of trust and dignity. The purpose is legitimate and had real consequences: the film provoked national outrage, reopened the judicial case, and led to the approval of new child protection laws in South Korea. However, the content is extremely disturbing. It is not a matter of fantastic violence or insinuations: the film clearly shows the suffering of vulnerable minors who are victims of sexual abuse. Narrative justice does not mitigate the emotional weight of the scenes. There is no easy redemption nor comforting closure — only the struggle for truth within a corrupt system. For parents: this work is not appropriate for minors under any circumstances, not even with accompaniment. The red light is due to the rawness of the content, not to an ideological agenda. The film defends human dignity, but its method of denunciation is too explicit for family consumption.
