Synopsis

Worried about her husband being allergic to dust, Nat, a recently-dead woman, returns as a ghost possessing a vacuum cleaner to clean the house and protect her family from other vengeful ghosts in the house. To become a useful ghost, she needs to get rid of the useless ones.

Verdict

Excessive harshness for an 18 rating prevents family viewing despite a moving bond.

In-depth analysis

A Ghost to Come Serves You operates on the philosophical plane of mourning and transcendence, utilizing the Chestertonian paradox of a spirit reincarnated in a vacuum cleaner to explore the human yearning for affiliation beyond death. The absurd premise disarms modern nihilism: faced with the pollution that takes Nat's life, March refuses the materialist void and rekindles a bond that transcends the flesh. This narrative affirms the natural law of enduring bonds, subtly opposing contemporary emotional discarding. There is no ideological contraband; on the contrary, it celebrates the order of the house taken over by love, where the domestic becomes sacred. However, the 18 rating (equivalent to adult content) implies sensory crudeness—possibly in the death by toxic dust or renewed intimacy—that strains the limits of human family flourishing. The central conflict is moral: is this reincarnation a flash of grace or a mere projection of wounded free will? The work invites awe at the dignity of the survivor, who chooses responsibility over hopelessness, evoking the joyful realism of Lewis. Absent of anthropological deconstruction, it prioritizes the everyday heroism of the marital bond, but its adult tone demands parental discernment for mature ages, preventing fantasy from diluting the seriousness of real grief.
