In-depth analysis

François Ozon constructs a sophisticated psychological thriller that explores voyeurism, manipulation, and the boundaries between fiction and reality. A literature professor, jaded by his mediocre students, discovers an exceptional narrative talent in Claude. The student writes about a classmate's family with unsettling observation, progressively infiltrating their intimacy. The film functions as a mirror to our own curiosity: the professor (and the viewer) become accomplices in the transgression. Ozon does not explicitly judge — the moral ambiguity is deliberate, characteristic of French auteur cinema. There is sexual tension between the adolescent student and his classmate's mother, handled with distance yet present. The screenplay raises uncomfortable questions about the artist's responsibility, the fascination with the lives of others, and the extent of the duty to intervene. It is not a work that celebrates transgression, but neither does it clearly condemn it. For mature viewers capable of navigating moral complexity without easy resolutions. Not appropriate for minors due to adult content and disturbing themes.
