In-depth analysis

The film centers its narrative on an eight-year-old child who rejects the masculine name everyone gives him and does not recognize himself in it. This premise directly introduces the idea that a minor can experience a discrepancy with their biological sex that must be validated by their family environment. The narrative presents this situation as a natural fact that the three generations of women must accept and manage, without questioning the root of the unease nor exploring therapeutic alternatives other than affirmation. The mother's professional and sentimental crisis intertwines with this issue, turning the son's possible identity change into part of her own process of personal liberation. Although the rural setting and beekeeping lend a poetic tone, the narrative core conveys that gender identity in childhood is something that must be respected and facilitated. This approach blurs the lines between compassionate accompaniment and the confirmation of a subjective perception about one's own body.
