In-depth analysis
The Milk of Sorrow portrays the burden of collective trauma through Fausta, a young woman marked by an illness that symbolizes the terror transmitted by mothers raped during the Peruvian conflict. The film does not explicitly show violence, but rather focuses on its psychological and cultural consequences: constant fear, the difficulty in forming relationships, and the struggle for survival in a hostile environment. The narrative addresses wounded human dignity and the search for solace in the face of inherited suffering. There are no elements that question the nature of the person, family, or sexuality; on the contrary, it exposes the real harm caused by sexual aggression and its intergenerational effects. The story invites reflection on memory, forgiveness, and the possibility of healing without denying the gravity of the evil endured. Its sober tone and its focus on the inner lives of the characters make it a demanding work that requires maturity to appreciate its human depth without sensationalism.
