Verdict
Technical mastery at the service of a nihilistic and hopeless vision of existence.
In-depth analysis
This musical special is a technical marvel: Burnham masterfully handles the lighting, editing, musical composition, and self-aware humor. The problem lies not in its form, but in its substance. For 87 minutes, the camera captures the mental collapse of an artist confined to a room, yet the narrative never seeks an exit — it makes emptiness its thesis. The humor concerning digital culture is incisive; the introspection on anxiety and depression, honest. Yet the work offers neither redemption nor hope: it presents modern existence as an absurd trap with no possible escape. Nihilism is not a conflict to be resolved but the inevitable conclusion. The language is exceedingly vulgar and pervasive, justifying its R rating. For adults of formed discernment, it may serve as a window into the despair of a digital generation; for viewers without firm roots, it is a manual for existential paralysis. Artistic beauty does not compensate for its empty anthropology.
