In-depth analysis

Iranian director Asghar Farhadi constructs a moral portrait of extraordinary precision on how a white lie can transform into an existential trap. The film is not an action thriller but a drama of conscience: Rahim finds a bag of money during his prison leave and decides to return it, earning public recognition. But when the truth of events begins to blur under social scrutiny, the narrative reveals the fragility of reputation and the cost of deceit. Farhadi does not judge with Manichaeism — he shows the complexity of a man trapped between his need for freedom and his integrity. The dramatic tension stems from the weight of moral decisions, not from physical violence. The screenplay invites reflection on personal responsibility and truth as the foundation of dignity. Without sexual content or vulgar language, it is an adult work due to its moral density, not due to its sensory crudeness. For families with older children, it offers a valuable opportunity to discuss integrity in a world that rewards appearances.
