In-depth analysis
PK is a Bollywood satire that uses the naive gaze of an alien to question religious practices. The film possesses genuine virtues: it denounces the hypocrisy of false gurus, criticizes meaningless rituals, and champions honesty over pious appearance. The protagonist sincerely seeks to understand God, and his quest connects with the yearning for transcendence that we all carry within us. However, the work fails to distinguish between the human corruption of religion and religion itself. By presenting all traditions as equally problematic, it slides towards relativism: the idea that there is no objective truth in religious matters, only personal preferences. The issue is not that it criticizes genuine abuses, but that it suggests the solution is to dispense with organized religion entirely. For a mature audience, it can open a dialogue about the distinction between authentic faith and religious charade. For young people without a formed critical judgment, the underlying message can foster a skepticism that confuses hypocrisy with falsehood. It requires parental guidance and the capacity to discern between legitimate critique and relativism disguised as tolerance.
