Normalizes homosexuality through a musical romance between two teenagers.

In-depth analysis

Given belongs to the Boys' Love anime genre and explicitly presents a romantic relationship between two male teenagers as its central narrative axis. The distribution synopsis deliberately omits this detail, mentioning only the musical friendship, but the film continues the television series where Ritsuka and Mafuyu develop a loving bond presented with the same naturalness as any heterosexual romance. The musical anime format, with its refined aesthetic and emotional narrative, can attract teenagers without parents being aware of the actual content. The work neither debates nor problematizes — it simply presents the homosexual relationship as an accomplished and positive fact, inserting this anthropological view into a context of personal growth and overcoming trauma. The artistic quality and emotional sensitivity of the narrative make the message resonate more deeply, but they do not change what the film proposes: that a relationship between two men is equivalent to the natural order of human love. For parents of teenagers who consume anime, it is crucial to know that this title is part of a specific genre (BL) designed to normalize homosexuality for young audiences.
