In-depth analysis
I Am Dragon is a Russian adaptation of the fairy tale tradition, with a narrative structure reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast. The story of Arman—a young man condemned to transform into a dragon—and Miroslava effectively develops a classic theme: authentic love as a redemptive force capable of liberating the person from their own darkness. The film embraces Slavic visual fantasy without postmodern irony, trusting that the viewer can be moved by a tale of inner transformation without the need to deconstruct the genre. The central conflict is not merely external (defeating the dragon) but profoundly moral: Arman must choose between yielding to his bestial nature or fighting for his humanity. Miroslava, for her part, transitions from terror to understanding, discovering that the person behind the monster deserves a second look. Its romantic intensity and some fantastic action scenes make it suitable for adolescents and adults, rather than young children. The message is wholesome: true love demands sacrifice, freedom, and the courage to see the other beyond appearances. A work that invites natural conversation about redemption and inner struggle.
