In-depth analysis
‘Japanese Mom’ (2017), a South Korean production of an erotic nature, falls within the genre of sexual dramas that explore infidelities and forbidden desires under the guise of domestic realism. The central conflict is moral and anthropological: a married man succumbs to the attraction of a mature Japanese woman, unleashing a plot of explicit adultery that deconstructs conjugal fidelity as a pillar of the natural order. Natural law, which links sexuality to marriage and procreation, is presented here as oppressive, prioritizing individual hedonism over family responsibility. Scenes of graphic sex, with total nudity and prolonged acts, do not serve a redemptive narrative but rather sensory gratification, reducing the person to an object of ephemeral desire. Absent grace or repentance, the work closes the transcendent horizon in a sensual materialism, fostering an illusory 'flourishing' based on transgression. From a Chestertonian anthropology, this story diminishes man, denying him the joy of self-mastery and authentic filiation. For parents, it represents a high risk: it normalizes promiscuity as liberation, ignoring the cardinal virtues of temperance and justice. Its voyeuristic tone subverts common sense, inviting us to question whether pleasure disconnected from the common good generates true happiness or mere addiction.
